The Black and Green contest looked more like an Oiler versus Islander reunion than the defensive minded FHL in Black’s 7-5 victory.
Leading the way for Black’s league-leading 13th victory of the season was Lee “Kurri” Naeth who collected three goals and an assist, while Bob “The Great One” Keen chipped in with a trio of assists.
Two tallies by Seth “Coffey” Phillips from his rearguard position were of special note as was a pair of helpers and jaw dropping elbows from Mark “Messier” Courtney who seems to get meaner with age.
Putting in a really good effort in the losing cause was Russ “Bossy” Young who used his lethal release for a hat trick as Chad “Trottier” Swanson collected three assists.
A goal and an assist from Green’s always hard working Randy “Nystrom” Crofts was supported by two assists thanks to Chris “Potvin” Royle.
The other contest was an instant replay of what has become the norm for the dreadful White side as they lost their sixth straight, 4-1 to Red.
The well-played contest was tied 1-1 at the flood as both goalies were lucky and good.
Opening up the scoring with his team’s first shot on goal was “Rocket” Rod Tarry.
Unfortunately and expectedly, that was all for the fairy tale as reality came crashing down on the White Wannabe Knights.
Red picked up the pace and scored four straight goals to win the joust on ice going away.
Four members of the Red Bloods did most of the damage as Mike “Mayhem” Ingram and Richard “The Menace” Lindstrom both scored a goal and an assist to leave Snow White running for refuge.
Dolling out a pair of assists apiece were the fabulous Baker Boys as “Sugar” Shane Baker and “Buckwheat” Brad Baker both did the deed.
Scoring the other goals for Red were a couple of calculating carnivores by the name of Ian Hannah “Montana” and Kerry “Underwood” Fitzgerald who let their pipes do the talking.
Steve Dodge is a defensive winger for the White team and an Observer contributor.
