The same spirit that won Terrace the Kraft Hockeyville title in 2009 has taken over West Kelowna.
Andrew Deans, director of operations for the BCHL’s West Bank Warriors and former Terrace Hockeyville volunteer, says the energy is high in West Kelowna as voting for the top five communities wraps up tomorrow night.
Currently West Kelowna has been short-listed to the top 15 in Canada, and needs to beat out the communities of Osoyoos and Campbell River to take the top spot in the Western zone.
“The same passion that won in Terrace, is the same passion that we have here in West Kelowna,” Deans said.
He explained that bringing the Hockeyville title to West Kelowna has been a grassroots effort, which has gotten the whole community involved on a project that means a lot more to a community than just hockey.
“If you believe in it and get behind it, it’s something you can grasp on to forever and be proud of it,” Deans said. “That’s what Terrace did and that’s what we are trying to do here.”
Deans points out that it is not often that members of community get to rally behind something as a whole.
Voting will wrap up at 9 p,m, Pacific time tomorrow and can be done online at http://krafthockeyville.cbc.ca/.
