Members of the Thompson Rivers University men’s volleyball team, the WolfPack, will be hosting a clinic for youths in Terrace.
The clinic will be available for students from Grades 6 to 12, and will be held August 22-25 at Thornhill Junior Secondary school.
Running the Terrace clinic will be former resident and 13-year Canadian National team member Jason Haldane.
“I have been looking forward to doing something like this in that area for the last couple of years,” says Haldane. “Volleyball is getting more popular in Terrace.
“A lot of the younger children are picking up the sport. Going to a camp like this can only help them develop their skills,” he continued.
Haldane, who will play with the British National Volleyball team in the 2012 Olympics, will be assisted at the Terrace camp by WolfPack and former Team BC player Matt Krueger.
“We are hoping for a good turn out,” Haldane said. “There are a lot of different skills involved in volleyball.”
He adds that working on a few of these skills specifically in a camp setting is a great thing, but the most important thing is for the kids have to have fun playing.
Head coach for the WolfPack, Pat Hennelly, wants these clinics to grow sports in rural B.C. Hennelly has previously held camps in the Kootenays, Okanagan and Cariboo regions. This will be the first time the team has hosted one of these clinics in the north west.
There is a cost associated with this program.
