The profile of basketball in Kelowna will get a big boost later this month when a former WNBA all-star comes to town.
Tammy Sutton-Brown will be here to share her knowledge at Gini Basketball’s Hoops for Girls Camp from July 22 to 24.
A native of Markham, Ont., Sutton was drafted 18th overall by the Charlotte Sting of the WNBA in 2001.
The 6-foot-3 Sutton spent seven seasons with the Canadian national team, including an appearance at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
“It’s great to have someone of that level come to coach at our camp,” said coach and program co-ordinator Andrew Gini. “Players who come to the camp are going to learn about what it takes to play at the next level and what the difference is between the high school and university levels.”
The other coaches at camp are Andrew Gini, Dino Gini, Landry Ndayitwayeko, Alex Hart, Dario Gini, Olivia Johnson, Angela White and Ed Dane Medi.
The camp is open to girls from Grades 6 to 12.
