Home hill advantage may have helped Fort dominate at Murray Ridge last week.
During the North Zone High School Ski and Snowboard Championships Feb. 7-8, the girls snowboard and ski teams both finished first.
Gabriela Willick took first place in the girl skiers, and Liam Willick placed second amongst the boy skiers.
Female snowboarders from Fort St. James also did well, with four competitors in the top 10.
Sara King from Fort St. James was second overall out of 22 competitors.
Once again, Fort St. James girl boarders topped the team competitions showing their depth of talent.
The team ranking depends on the top four individual times from each team.
Fort St. James Secondary School female board team (FSJSS) had a total time of 232.5 seconds to secure first place, Lakes District Secondary School female board team placed second overall, with a total time of 242 seconds.
Smithers Secondary School girl boarders took third with 248.2 seconds.
For the boy boarders, Burns Lake’s LDSS took first overall with 228.28 seconds, D.P. Todd Secondary School from PG took second with 213.06 seconds and the College Heights team (also PG) took third place with a time of 233.97.
Fort St. James only had one male boarder competitor, Oscar Croucher, who placed a respectable 19th out of the 54 competitors.
