Abbey Fortin will spend her summer wearing the red and white.
Fortin was one of the 18 players named to the final roster for Softball Canada’s 2017 junior women’s national team.

The final roster was released on Monday (June 12) following a selection camp held earlier this month in Cloverdale.
The Canadian side will compete in the Canada Cup July 8 to 16 in Surrey before heading to Clearwater, Fla. for the WBSC junior women’s world championships July 24 to 30.
Fortin, who graduated from Walnut Grove Secondary in 2016, just finished her freshman season with the Long Island University Post Pioneers women’s softball team.
The six-foot outfielder from Langley hit .257 with a .520 slugging percentage and .314 on-base percentage. She also had 29 RBIs and was third on the team in both batting average and runs driven in while starting all 53 games. And her 13 home runs led the entire league.
Her play also earned Fortin the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II rookie of the year.
And while Fortin will represent the junior national team, another Langley resident has been tasked with guiding the Canadian men’s national softball team.
John Stuart will serve as head coach as Canada competes at the Bob Law Memorial Challenge in Vancouver and the WBSC men’s world softball championships in Whitehorse, Yuk. from July 7 to 16.

The team features 11 returnees from the 2015 team which won gold at the world championships. Stuart was also coach of that squad.
