Tiffany Foster is set to represent Canada for a fourth time at a major international competition as the 32-year-old will don the Maple Leaf at the Rio Olympic Games as part of the Canadian show jumping team.
The Games begin on Friday and run until Aug. 21.
Foster was born and raised in North Vancouver and has been taking riding lessons since she was eight years old.
A good chunk of her teenage years were spent training out of Langley’s Thunderbird Show Park under the guidance of Laura and Brent Balisky.
She was back in Langley for a major competition at Thunderbird Show Park in early June.
This will be Foster’s second Olympic Games as she also competed at the 2012 Games in London where Canada finished fifth.
Foster also helped her country win gold at last year’s Pan American Games. She also represented Canada in 2014 at the World Equestrian Games where they finished eighth as a team.
Joining her in Rio as part of the equestrian team will be Langley’s Mark Laskin, who is serving as the Chef d’Equipe for the jumping team.
There are a handful of other athletes either from Langley or who have ties to Langley, representing Canada in Rio.
Lisa Roman will compete in the women’s eights in rowing.
The Canadian men’s volleyball team features Langley’s Dan Jansen vanDoorn and Rudy Verhoeff, as well as Abbotsford’s Steve Marshall. All three played with the Trinity Western volleyball program.
Another former TWU volleyball player, Chaim Schalk (Red Deer, Alta.) is part of Canada’s beach volleyball team.
And Abbotsford’s Adam Froese is on the field lacrosse squad.
