The third annual Founder’s Cup Saturday at the Fred Couples Signature Course at The Rise is a bargain for $150.

Featuring nearly $10,000 in prizes, players get a round of golf on a world-class track, brunch, dinner and a crested golf shirt just for entering. Shoot well in the two-person, best-ball format and you will walk away with some attractive prizes.

“We’re sitting at about 90 and our magic goal is 100,” said head pro Lee Ranger. “Anyone wanting to register can just call our pro shop (250-545-7425).”

The tournament is named after the 21 founding members who hail mainly from Vancouver and Alberta. Defending champions are Shane Bowring and Mark Aven.

Players may also take advantage of a $49 practice round Friday. There are various flights with prizes for low gross and net winners. Play begins Saturday wth a 1:30 shotgun start.

Ranger, a 44-year-old Nanaimo product who has been at The Rise since it opened, is ecstatic with the track’s appearance.

“The course is awesome,” he said. “The greens are fast and true. The course is lovely.”

The Rise is named after Couples, who after a 10-year partnership with legendary golf course designer Gene Bates, put his name on the course.

The course held their annual charity Ladies of the Okanagan tourney last Sunday featuring 52 players.
