Four Kimberley cross country racers return from Nationals with medals

The Kimberley Nordic Club sent four of their KiXS racers to the Canadian National Championships in Gatineau, Quebec, last month. With Tim Wintoniw and Frank Ackermann as the support staff, the team had some of the best results they've ever seen: Never before can the team say that every skier returned from the National Championships with medals.

The Kimberley Nordic Club sent four of their KiXS racers to the Canadian National Championships in Gatineau, Quebec, last month. With Tim Wintoniw and Frank Ackermann as the support staff, the team had some of the best results they’ve ever seen: Never before can the team say that every skier returned from the National Championships with medals.

The team was busy during the nine-day event packed with 5 days of racing, Ackermann says.

“Quinn Morgan had very consistent results finishing top 10 in each race, resulting in her best-ever third place aggregate medal for her age-group. Coming in first place in the B-Final of the sprint races (for a 7th place finish) was a highlight for her, as well as the close fourth place finish in the Girl’s Team Sprint where she was anchored by Marielle Ackermann. Marielle had a stunning second place finish in the A-Final of the skate sprint races. The underdog team of Sydney Wilson and Ben Gadd came from behind in the Mixed Team Sprint races to win Gold in the finals with a perfectly timed lunge from Ben Gadd.”

Quinn, Marielle, Sydney, Frank and Tim would like to thank Pacific Sport and the Canadian Sport Institute for the travel grant support provided to these targeted athletes and coaches. With these races, the race season has come to a close for the KiXS team, and they are looking forward to another successful season next year, with their off-season training starting again within a month.
