The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds minor midget hockey team got 2019 started with silver, placing second in the first annual Acura Winter Classic tournament.
Coquitlam’s Planet Ice hosted the event Jan. 6.
The T-Birds defeated the Valley West Giants in a semi-finals and lost the championship match by a narrow margin, falling 2-1 to the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs.
The Thunderbirds hit the road this weekend, playing three games in North Vancouver against the Vancouver Northwest Hawks.
They’re home for a three game series against the Cariboo Cougars Jan. 25-27.
The Fraser Valley roster includes Chilliwackians Luke Wismer, Lucas Bourdon, Dylan Brooks, Treyson Frost and Clay Kurtz.
