Tournament MVP Michael Rouault drained 23 points as the Fulton Maroons stuffed the Westsyde Whundas 73-52 in Saturday afternoon’s final of the 14th annual Maroon Corporate Classic.
All-star Tye Kitzman rung up 16 points for Fulton, while Riley Beauchamp sank a dozen, Karanmeet Khatra added 10 and Darrien Broomfield had seven. All-star Joe Davis powered the Kamloops crew with 34 points.
Cory Ang-Hamilton of the Maroons, Jordan Rice of Westsyde and Jason Pinneo of the Sa-Hali Sabres rounded out the all-star team.
“It was a great tourney with some very competitive games,” said Fulton head coach Dale Olson. “I thought my guys played extremely well defensively and that’s what won it for us.
“Westsyde is a good team that came through the other side basically untouched, so I was a little worried going into final. It started as a defensive battle that we opened up a little as the game went on. It was overall one of our best games of the year.
“A big thanks to our sponsors Tim Hortons and Super 8.”
The VSS Panthers lost an 85-84 overtime thriller to the Sabres in the consolation final.
Chris Inscho had a career-high 31 points for VSS, while Andy Hladik counted 22 and John Garvie dialed up 18. Shelby Hartwig pocketed 21 rebounds.
The Panthers led throughout the game and were up by 13 heading into the fourth quarter, but coach Glenn Garvie said “Turnovers and missed shots in the final quarter cost us the game.”
Chris Gallant flushed 17 points as the Kalamalka Lakers iced the L.V. Rogers Bombers of Nelson 68-32 to finish seventh. Nick Stanhope fired a dozen points, while Jamie Pruckl scored 10 and Tye Oddy had eight.
