The Fulton Maroons came from behind to shade the Seaton Sonics 3-2 in North Zone Senior AA Boys Soccer League action Thursday at Marshall Field.
Fulton looked sluggish at the start with a few scoring chances, and Seaton took the lead when Noa Acri converted after a poor clearance out of the Fulton penalty area.
Ko Kameyama pulled Fulton equal with a rocket from 20 yards.
The game was a see-saw battle and Mathieu Wouters put Fulton ahead early in the second half after a long punt by Fulton keeper Luis Lins. Seaton was awarded a penalty minutes later, but the shot went wide off the post.
The Sonics fought back to tie the game shortly after on another Acri goal. Wouters put Fulton ahead with 10 minutes remaining to keep the Maroons’ undefeated run intact.
“Unfortunately it was Mathieu’s final game for us,” said Fulton head coach Wayne Aasen. “He is returning to Belgium this weekend. We will miss his scoring ability. It is a blow for us, but will give other players the chance to step up.”
Seaton head coach Sarah Kwantes praised her crew for a stellar showing.
“The boys played a great game,” said Kwantes.
“With only two subs, they ran hard and had some great scoring chances, but in the end they were their own worst enemy due to their lack of communication on the field.”
