The Fulton Maroons were looking to repeat as champions of their 15th annual Maroon Corporate Classic Senior Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday afternoon at Fulton gym.
Dale Olson’s Maroons went undefeated in preliminary play after bouncing the Kalamalka Lakers 87-57 Friday night. Fulton, ranked No. 7 in B.C., faced the No. 5 Golden Golden Eagles in the final.
Cory Ang-Hamilton dialed up 28 points to lead the Fulton attack against the Lakers, with Brandon Isaac (18 points) and Kobe Romanovitch (10) also reaching double digits.
Nick Stanhope had 21 points for Kal, and Gustavo Brocanelli earned 14.
Isaac canned 28 points and Tye Kitzman drained 26 to lead the Maroons to a 72-55 slamming of the Princess Margaret Mustangs of Penticton earlier Friday.
Golden earned their way to the final with a pair of Friday wins, grounding the Vernon Panthers 53-45, and the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops 72-44.
Neal Randhawa led the Eagles in both tilts, supplying 15 points against VSS and a whopping 33 against the Whundas.
Ty Thomas was the Panthers’ top pointgetter with 15 against Golden, while John Garvie added 14 and Ben Hladik 11.
Vernon stuffed the Fulton reserve squad 62-45 in their other Friday tilt.
Hladik fired a game-high 27 points for the Cats, while Romanovitch replied with 15 for Fulton.
Maggie rattled the Sa-Hali Sabres of Kamloops 84-62 in the other Friday game.
In opening-day action Thursday, the #1 Maroons got 24 points from Kitzman as they swarmed Sa-Hali 81-46. Isaac supplied 17 points and Ang-Hamilton added 10.
The Sabres were led by Haris Djelmo and Dima Pokhylov, who collected 15 points apiece.
Despite a 25-point showing from Romanovitch, the Fulton reserves fell 70-54 to the Eagles in the late game Thursday. Noah Alleyne (nine points) and Jake O’Quinn (seven) helped keep Fulton competitive.
Bandhawa and Saje Gosal each flushed 17 points for the Eagles.
Garvie supplied a monster 35 points to push the Panthers past the Whundas 68-61 in their opener. Hladik added 10 points and Thomas contributed eight.
Josh Bosher, with 20 points, and Scott Barry, with 14, were the Whundas’ main threats.
The Lakers went winless in their first two tilts, bowing 70-43 to the Mustangs Thursday, and 56-48 to Sa-Hali in Friday’s first game.
Lucas Ross dialed up a 19-point showing against Maggie, and drained another 17 against the Sabres.
Stanhope added secondary scoring for Kal, collecting six points Thursday and eight Friday.
