The Fulton Maroons earned their first win of the season Wednesday at Grahame Park, a 42-0 pounding of the Westsyde Blue Wave of Kamloops.
The Maroons, now 1-2 in the Okanagan Junior Varsity Football Conference, were led by two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Isaac Olson, a 50-yarder and a one-yarder.
Other rushing TDs came from Ethan Eisenhauer (10 yards), Cole Hunter (five yards) and Liam Higgs (seven yards). Caden Doyle returned an interception 34 yards for Fulton’s other score.
The Maroons managed 29 yards passing, with Olson completing 4-of-7 attempts. Doyle had three catches for 26 yards.
On defence, Logan Emes and Koalden Gudeit Oakden each racked up four tackles and Andrew Goldenthal had three.
“It was nice to get our first JV win,” said Fulton head coach Mike Scheller. “The boys have worked hard and they deserved the victory.
“We were happy with the discipline our kids showed in that we committed very few errors. We knew our assignments, reduced our turnovers and had only two penalties.”
Scheller helped tighten the defence by simplifying their scheme. He credited the players for played a faster, more aggressive style.
“Logan Emes had a great game at linebacker, as did DEs Hunter Krieger and Andrew Goldenthal. Offensively, we moved the ball well and benefited from great field position provided by the defence.”
The o-line of Tyler Deboer, Ryan Rumsey, Goldenthal, Krieger and Quinn Miller protected well and opened big holes for Fulton’s backs.
Meanwhile, the Vernon Panthers host the Salmon Arm Golds in varsity play this afternoon, 2 p.m., at Grahame Park.
