Max Chapman supplied a pair of short-run touchdowns as the Fulton Maroons stopped the South Kamloops Titans 22-8 in exhibition junior varsity football action Tuesday at Grahame Park.
The Maroons, who led 16-8 at the half, also got a three-yard TD rush from Davron Polok. Chapman ran in a pair of two-point converts.
Chapman finished with 17 carries for 126 yards, while Polok had seven touches for 50 yards and quarterback Tye Kitzman earned 22 yards on four runs. Trevor Feeney racked up 16 yards on five attempts, while Liam Curran scampered 15 yards on one run.
Kitzman completed three of seven passes for 26 yards, including an 18-yarder to Darrien Broomfield. He was intercepted once.
On defence, Polok collected 11 tackles, Feeney had five, Brett Shaigec four and Sikandar Ahmad a pair. Polok registered a sack.
Head coach Mike Scheller said the Maroons played with more confidence and aggression after losing to the Mt. Boucherie Bears last Friday.
“Our O-line coaches Josh Cooper and Shane Gaythorpe got the kids firing off the ball much better on offence and defence,” said Scheller. “This just allows you to be more aggressive, and it really helped our rushing attack.
“The O-line blocked really well for our backs, Chapman and Polok. Romello Coufal, Zach Neill, Lucky Banga, Eric Brawn and Bailey Griffin paved the way for our running attack to be successful. Offensive co-ordinator Cole Tucker did a great job of calling plays, and he mixed up our attack.”
On defence, Polok was outstanding at defensive end, while Feeney was effective at linebacker and Shaigec made a few nice run-down tackles. Ben Aspenlieder was solid in the secondary.
“Defensive co-ordinator Kevin Stecyk did a solid job coaching these kids and getting them ready for the game.”
The Maroons get a bye next week, while the senior AA Maroons host the Mt. Baker Wild of Cranbrook in pre-season play Saturday (2 p.m.) at Grahame Park.
