The Fulton Maroons stretched their North Zone Senior AA Boys Basketball League win streak to four Wednesday night with a 72-44 smothering of the Seaton Sonics.
Big 6-foot-5 foward Dustin Popoff paced the Maroons with 19 points, while guard Mitch Rouault rung up 17 points and forward Austin Richardson flushed 15.
Popoff kicked in with 14 rebounds, while Richardson earned a dozen boards.
“We got a great game from Steve Porcaro, along with great defence and rebounding,” said Fulton head coach Dale Olson.
Chris McEachran-Law canned 13 points and Kuup Peters sank 10 for the visiting Sonics.
In Tuesday night games moved up from Friday, the Maroons mauled the Pleasant Valley Saints 81-43 at Fulton.
Popoff delivered 19 points, while Rouault pocketed 18, and Richardson and Clayton Mottus each chipped in with 13 points.
The Mission Roadrunners and G.W. Graham Grizzlies of Chlliwack remain the top-two ranked AA schools in the province.
In girls action, the Maroons, coached by Doug Rogers, brushed off Pleasant Valley 55-21.
High scorers for Fulton were Melissa Silva with 12, and Danica Serafin, Hana Ouchi and Sam Ferrier with eight points apiece.
The VSS Panthers moved up one spot to No. 9 in the provincial ratings, while the Kalamalka Lakers earned a honourable mention.
The Britannia Bruins of Vancouver are ranked No. 1 ahead of the Lambrick Park Pride of Victoria. The Sa-Hali Sabres of Kamloops are No. 5.
It’s exam week starting Monday so North Zone play resumes Wednesday, Feb. 1 with VSS at Fulton (boys) and Fulton going to VSS (girls).
The Panthers Senior Boys Shootout starts today at 2 p.m. with Mike Sawka’s Panthers going up against the Barriere Cougars.
The Golden Golden Eagles battle the Summerland Rockets at 3:45, while Pleasant Valley takes on the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops at 5:30 and the Salmon Arm Golds play the Okanagan Mission Huskies at 7:15.
Play resumes Saturday at 8 a.m. with the championship final set for 8:15 p.m.
The Charles Bloom Timberwolves Senior Boys Invitational opens Friday, Jan. 27 with eight teams, including Kal and the George Elliot Coyotes of Lake Country.
