The host Fulton Maroons sputtered a touch but still managed to place second in their pool Friday at the Okanagan Valley Senior AA Boys Volleyball Championships.
Dan Currie’s crew tangled with the Seaton Sonics in the quarterfinals Saturday morning.
Fulton opened the eight-team playdowns by shutting down the Sa-Hali Sabres of Kamloops 2-0 (25-21, 25-17).
The Maroons were then upset by the South Okanagan Hornets of Oliver with Fulton winning Game 1 25-8 before the Hornets posted 28-26, 15-11 victories.
Fulton then went three games with the Okanagan Mission Huskies of Kelowna, winning 25-21 before losing 25-18, 15-12.
In pool B play at Seaton, the Princess Margaret Mustangs of Penticton topped the table by outlasting the Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops 2-0 (25-11, 25-20), icing the Sonics 2-0 (25-20, 25-22) and dispatching the George Elliot Coyotes of Winfield 2-0 (25-13, 25-20 ).
Seaton brushed back Valleyview 2-0 (25-23, 25-22) after falling 2-0 (25-17, 25-18) to George Elliot. Seaton was led by captain Charles Oduro, libero Russell Day and outside hitter Trevor Atkinson.
The Coyotes swept Valleyview 2-0 (25-11, 25-17) to eliminate the Vikes.
Meanwhile, Fulton went undefeated in Friday action at the Valley Junior Boys Championships at Mt. Boucherie in West Kelowna.
Richard Bedard’s gang defeated the Pen-High Lakers 2-0 (25-18, 25-15), amushed Valleyview 2-0 (25-11, 25-12) and smothered the Kelowna Owls 2-0 (25-19, 25-16).
Fulton earned a bye into Saturday’s semifinals against the winner of NorKam Saints and Kelowna.,
In the other pool, Mt. Boucherie earned the bye and were scheduled to face the winner of Summerland Rockets and Pen-Hi in the other semi.
Valleyview and Seaton were eliminated after placing last in their respective pools. Seaton was 1-2, with their win coming against the Bears.
The Vernon Christian School Royals came out strong Friday at the Valley Senior A Girls Championships in Kelowna.
The Royals bounced the Barriere Cougars 2-0 (25-13, 25-12) in their opening match with Clare Thiessen recording five aces and the Hofsink sisters combining for nine kills.
The Royals then swept the Clearwater Raiders 2-0 (25-14, 25-14) with setter Hannah Podolski spreading the ball around well and Libero Laura Hulstein ringing up some timely saves.
“We played some of our best volleyball of the season,” said Vernon coach Jason Reedyk.
The Royals met the No. 2 ranked Immaculata Mustangs Saturday.
