The Spirit of the Game Basketball Camp returns to the lakecity for its seventh season and will once again focus on teaching personal development and the value of a good work ethic in a fun environment.
Sponsored by the Cariboo Community Church the camp, which runs from March 21-24 from 9 a.m. until noon at Cataline Elementary School, is for all levels of players and is free.
The camp has space for 40 grades 4 through 6 players, and to avoid being put on a waiting list camp organizer Michelle Maillet has advised interested individuals register as soon as possible.
The camp will be coached by Ryan Penner, the youth director at Youth for Christ’s after school program at the Hot Spot, who will be teaching players basic skills of the game.
“He’ll be focusing on effort, teamwork, sportsmanship,” says Maillet, noting snacks will also be provided during the camp.
“We’ll also be giving out four awards to the kids each day at the camp.
“We have a lot of cool things for the kids to pick from, and local businesses have donated prizes for daily recognition.”
Registration for the camp is available at Cariboo Community Church, Caribou Ski Source for Sports, Shogun Martial Arts Academy and Flavors (Youth for Christ).
