Dan Whiteford’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Gord Closson Forest Products a 6-4 win over Lantzville Pub in a men’s fastball contest at Waldon Park on Tuesday evening.

GCFP went into the bottom of the seventh trailing Lantzville 4-3, but Ryan Kline tripled, then came home on a sacrifice by Trevor Gicas to tie the score. Craig Snyder singled, and Whiteford hit a two-out homer to give his team the victory.

“It’s always nice to walk off in the bottom of the seventh when you’re the home team,” GCFP manager Joe DiLalla said.

Snyder went 3-for-3 at the plate with a run and an RBI, while also pitching the full seven innings with 16 strikeouts, while allowing six hits and walking just one Lantzville batter.

Whiteford, Ryan Kline, Trevor Gicas, Steve Lingren and Tylor Branszen each had one hit. Gicas finished with three RBIs, and Whiteford brought home two base-runners.

GCFP sits first in the Nanaimo Senior Men’s Fastball League with six wins, one loss and one default through eight games. The Duncan team is playing in a tournament at Hyacinth Park in Saanich this weekend, and will play at home against Wheatsheaf next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
