ASC members excel at Coast region event over the weekend

It was a golden weekend for Abbotsford’s Megan Geddes.

The Abbotsford Skating Club athlete took home gold at the BC Coast region championship event in Chilliwack this weekend.

The 17-year-old won gold in the gold free skate division, and also earned bronze in the gold interpretive. Other ASC members with top-10 finishes at the event included: Della Williamson third place in Star5 U13; Nicole Krahn –fifth place Star4 U13; Wendy Lin fifth place Star4 U13; Taralyn Geddes sixth place senior silver free skate; Emma Harley sixth place junior silver free skate; Ainsley Young sixth place Star5 13 and over; and Emilie Ruffel sixth place Star4 U13.

Other local finishers at the event included: : Mica Kerr 13th place Star5 U13; Anika Phinney 15th place Star5 U13; Emma Haw 23rd, senior bronze free skate; Jennifer Oh 18th, senior bronze free skate; Anika Doersken bronze ribbon, Star2; Samantha Venema gold ribbon, Star2; and Alicia Horner silver ribbon, Star3.

Next up for the ASC is the Super Series StarSkate finals in Kelowna from March 4 to 6. Several of the club’s skaters are expected to make the trip.

The next big local event is the club’s annual ice show called Ice Dreams on April 2. It occurs at MSA Arena, with shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are available at MSA Arena from March 28 to April 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. or via email at iceshow@live.ca.

Also coming up on the calendar for the ASC is the club’s annual awards night on May 28.
