Geoff Kabush second-best Canadian in Men’s Elite

GEOFF KABUSH OF Courtenay posted the second-best Canadian finish in Men's Elite at the May 25 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup cross-country race in the Czech Republic.

GEOFF KABUSH OF Courtenay posted the second-best Canadian finish in Men's Elite at the May 25 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup cross-country race in the Czech Republic.

Courtenay’s Geoff Kabush finished 49th in the Men’s Elite category at the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup cross-country event, May 25 in Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic.

Kabush (Scott-3Rox Racing) posted the second-best Canadian finish in the category at +7:27. Raphael Gagne was top Canadian in Men’s Elite at +4:37.

Nino Schurter of Switzerland won in a time of 1:28.33. Derek Zandstra of Canada placed 99th.

The 37-year-old Kabush has had many successes in his racing career, including:

• 3X Olympian (9th Sydney, 20th Beijing, 8th London)

• 12X Canadian National Champion

• 1st World Cup, Bromont, 2009

• 9X World Cup Podiums

• 4X US National XC Series Champion

• 4X US National STXC Series Champion

• 5th 2009, 8th 2010, 10th 2011 – World Champs

• 2007 Pan-American Champion

• 4X Canadian National Cyclocross Champion

• 11 USGP CX  Podiums.

The Canadian Mountain Bike Team will now travel to Albstadt, Germany for the fourth event on the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup circuit.
