The Golden Cycling Club has received funding through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund for upgrades to the Moonraker Trail system.
The funding was announced by Kootenay Columbia Member of Parliament David Wilks on April 5. In total $9,669 has been allocated to the club for the upgrades.
“The ongoing improvements and maintenance to the Moonraker Trail system is a priority of focus for the Golden Cycling Club. For over 10 years the Golden Cycling Club has successfully worked with all levels of government to continually improve and market this recreational asset,” said director of the Golden Cycling Club, Rick Seward.
Wilks said this type of investment into communities is important on many levels.
“Our government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities across Canada,” said Wilks. “By making these investments in local infrastructure, we are helping boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians.”
Seward explained the club is looking forward to a busy summer on the trail system.
“The government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIFF), allows the Golden Cycling Club to hire a team of local trail builders to make major improvements to the existing trail system. The project will focus on sections of trail vulnerable to erosion and flooding. The club is excited to receive this grant funding and plans to complete these trail improvements this summer. The results of the project will be enjoyed by local cyclists and visiting mountain bikers who choose Golden as a destination riding location,” he said.
