For Golden Rockets rookie Carson George, coming to the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) was only a short drive from home.
Growing up in Calgary, George has been playing hockey since the age of five and spent last season with the double junior Northwest Bruins.
In his first year with the Rockets he currently sits sixth in team points and fourth in scoring with 10 goals and seven assists so far this season.
“It has been pretty good. I had a slow start but lately things have been getting better,” George said.
He went on to explain he made the decision to come play for the Rockets after a summer meeting.
“I like Ty Davidson. I met him this summer and liked what he had to say. Plus playing here is close to home,” George said.
The fact that he plays near his home town has given his parents the chance to come out and watch him play which is support George appreciates.
Jumping over to the KIJHL has been a learning experience for George.
“Speed is the big thing. It was tough at the start of the season but you get used to it as the season moves along. Being in shape and getting used to the way they play is important.”
According to George one thing that has been helping his game as the season has progressed is playing on a line with Bryden Marsh and Dallas Flockhart.
“We are a skill line,” George said.
As for the rest of the season George said, “I hope to continue to improve and play Junior A next year. As for this year I hope to continue to play well and get out of the first round of the playoffs.”
