Started in 1990 by the Campbell River Running Club, the Miracle Beach 5 & 10 K run is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. According to organizers, the run is one of the friendliest and most relaxed events on the Island running calendar. It offers a flat course on country roads and racers are treated to hot soup and cookies post-race along with prize draws for pies and pumpkins.
River Runners, in conjunction with the Recreation Department, are offering another beginner run clinic for those who would like to train for the 5 or 10K distances at Miracle Beach. The clinic starts on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Willow Point Sportsplex. Each week there are group runs for different speeds and distances. Some weeks will have informative talks on run equipment and planning and everyone will receive a five-week training programme to follow. Cost is only $25. To register for the run clinic call 250-923-7911 or drop by the Sportsplex. Registration starts on Aug. 22. For more information on the Miracle Beach run or club activities contact the River Runners at crriverrunners@gmail.com.
This year’s run takes place Oct. 19.
