Girls wind up just short of soccer provincials

The Revelstoke Secondary School seniors girls soccer team placed fifth in the Okanagan Championships last week.

They lost 1-0 to Ashcroft on Thursday morning to open the tournament, with Ashcroft’s only goal coming on a penalty kick. RSS had numerous chances in the second half but were unable to capitalize.

The team rebounded with a 2-0 win over Keremeos that afternoon, setting up a must-win game against Immaculata Friday morning.

Unfortunately, the girls were unable to overcome the eventual tournament champions, falling 3-0 and sending them into the fifth place game against Osoyoos, which they won 3-1.

Luxmoore said the top four teams qualified for the provincials. “The sunny weather, supportive fans, generous Revelstoke businesses, and well prepared fields help make the tournament a great success,” he said in an e-mail.
