Gold medals for area Whist players at BC Seniors Games

The Whist participants from Zone 8 for the 2011 BC Seniors Games held in Castlegar last week came home with a number of medals and two of them gold.

The Whist participants from Zone 8 for the 2011 BC Seniors Games held in Castlegar last week came home with a number of medals and two of them gold.

Those players hailed from the Barriere and Louis Creek Area, and are regular Whist players at the Barriere Seniors Hall.

Medals awarded in Whist to Zone 8 to area residents were as follows:

• Two gold – Susan Garland and Rob Rutten

• Silver – Gordon and Marylynn Crichton

• Bronze – Eva Long and Carol Bugera

“We had a wonderful time and the organizers did a tremendous job of putting on the event,” said gold medal winner Susan Garland on her return home.

Zone 8 had approximately 300 participants who claimed a total of 122 medals: 49 gold, 34 silver and 39 bronze.

The Games were spread throughout three West Kootenay venues; Nelson, Castlegar and Trail, and are open to people aged 55 years and up.

 

Zone 8 covers a large area including: Anglemont, Ashcroft, Avola, Barriere, Blue River, Canoe, Celista, Chase, Clearwater, Clinton, Falkland, Grindrod, Kamloops, Lillooet, Little Fort, Logan Lake, Merritt, Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, Sicamous, Sorrento, Valemont and Vavenby.
