There were numerous athletes from Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows who competed in the B.C. Winter Games in Kamloops last weekend, with one gold, one silver and one bronze medal coming back.
Speed skater Catalina-Mae Shupe joined with skaters from Chilliwack and Mission to win gold in the under-14 3,000-metre mixed relay, skating for the Fraser Valley Zone team.
Archer Sophie Breckenridge was on target, taking silver in the two-day aggregate girls’ recurve event. She also finished fourth in the match play recurve competition.
In gymnastics, Aaliyah De Sousa and Isabela Acosta both were part of the girls’ team team that finished fourth. De Sousa took a bronze medal in the floor event.
There were numerous athletes who came close to the medals, but finished fourth.
In badminton, there were three teams that had fourth-pace finishes: Darius Clayton and Marshall Kanda-Kwan in boys’ doubles; Raingi Chow and Jinelle Ham in girls’ doubles; and Johnathan Shang and Ellie Kim in mixed doubles.
The wheelchair basketball team of Thomas Reed, Brendan Nichols, Matthew White, Miles Reed and Spencer Faulkner finished fourth.
The Fraser Valley zone team in ringette also finished fourth. That squad included Kyla Carlson, Emma Forsberg, Emily MacDonald, Claudia Snider and Sarah Meaden of Pitt Meadows.
Archer Tyrese Temple had two fourth-place finishes in the two-day aggregate boys’ recurve and match play recurve events.
As a zone team, Fraser Valley finished fourth out of eight in the standings, with 50 medals, behind third-place Thompson-Okanagan. Vancouver-Coastal won with 128 medals, and Fraser River was second with 95.
