Golden Rockets defeat rivals in overtime

The Golden Rockets faced off against their rivals, the Columbia Valley Rockies on Friday night at the plywood palace.

The home game saw high-octane performances from both teams, starting out with a fast pace, and carrying it through right until the end.

Right from the start, both teams took off against each other, head to head, unwilling to go home defeated.

In the first period, Dominic Turner scored the first goal from Bryce Trimmer and Riley Egan. Goalie Ryan Baker didn’t let the Rockies get anything in his net for the entire first period.

Getting a little more rough and physical, the second period saw a lot more push from both teams.

The Rockies were able to get one goal in, but the Rockets retaliated. The Rockets’ second goal was scored by Janson Pashniak from Jaden Callan and Brendan Sime-Vivian, and the Rockets immediately scored again. Egan scored the third goal of the night from Briar Whyte, with the Rockets scoring right away once again.

The fourth goal by the Rockets saw Turner getting the puck in the net from Whyte and Callan. The Columbia Valley Rockies were able to get one more in the Rockets’ net before the end of the second period.

Going into the third period, the Rockies snuck one goal in past Baker, but the Rockets were up with 30 shots on the Rockies, while the Columbia Valley team only had 21 on the Rockets.

The Rockies decided to pull their goalie, leaving the net empty to put more players on the ice.

They were able to tie up the game near the end of the period, sending the rivals into overtime. The Golden Rockets broke the tie, and won the game, with Trimmer putting the puck in the net with help from Whyte.

The Golden Rockets’ next home game should be a wild one with Canadian cult classic hero Terry Cahill from Fubar hosting on Friday, January 11 at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Rockets will take on the Castlegar Rebels on home ice.

The Canadian icon will be in town for the night, hosting heavy metal karaoke at The Taps later in the evening.

Drink specials will be available for anyone with a game ticket.
