Golden Rockets get one game up on Kimberley

The Golden Rockets started off their 2013 playoff run with a win over the Dynamiters.

The Golden Rockets did enough to pull out a 4-2 victory in their first game of the 2013 playoffs against the Kimberley Dynamiters on Feb 21.

Both teams came out hitting in the first period and tried to set the tone for the game but no one could score until over half way through the second period when Rockets forward Connor Beauchemin scored his first goal of the playoffs.

A little over four minutes later the Rockets took advantage of a power play opportunity when Keith Wake scored.

Both Bobby Kashuba and Coltin Berard assisted on both of the Rockets first two goals.

Kashuba continued his strong game scoring only seven seconds into the third period.

The Dynamiters were not done in the game and scored their first goal of the playoffs midway through the final period.

Near the end of the game the Rockets got into penalty trouble and Kimberley took advantage with 1:16 left in the period.

Down by only one goal, the Dynamiters pulled their goalie to try and tie things up but the Rockets held on and got the puck down the ice where Josh Jewell tapped it into the empty net with only one second remaining on the clock.

Rockets head coach Ty Davidson was happy with the win but felt the team did not play their best.

“Anytime you are winning in the playoffs it is fantastic. I don’t think we had our best effort tonight. I think we won because we have better personnel than they do and therefore we came out with the victory,” he said.

The Rockets are playing game two at the Golden Arena against the Dynamiters on Feb. 22. The game will start at 7:30.
