Golden Rockets win tight game against Columbia Valley Rockies

The Golden Rockets beat the Columbia Valley Rockies in Friday night Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action.

The Golden Rockets squashed the momentum of the Columbia Valley Rockies, fresh off their second win of the year, with a 3-1 victory in Friday night’s game.

It was a tight first period, shots 10 to 9 in favour of the Rockets, but Golden managed to take the lead with a goal from Brandon Shirley.

Two more goals in the second came from Carson George and Jacob Bergeron, giving the Rockets a 3-0 lead heading into the third. Unfortunately the team could not hold on to the shutout, as the Rockies scored their only goal of the evening, shorthanded by Cody Stephenson, late in the third.

Shots for the game were 49-14 for Golden, and neither team was able to convert on the power play (Columbia Valley 0 for 4, and Golden 0 for 8).

The Rockets will take on the Creston Valley Thunder Cats tonight (Dec. 10) at 7:30 p.m.
