Golden year for MEI senior volleyball

Eagles senior boys and girls teams win provincial gold

The MEI Eagles are truly golden after a pair of big wins over the weekend.

Both the Eagles senior boys and senior girls volleyball teams earned AA provincial gold, and wrapped up a strong season in style.

MEI defeated Langley Fundamental 3-0 (25-13, 26-24 and 25-19) in the final in Langley on Saturday to take home the top prize. It’s the second straight year that the senior boys team has won provincials.

“This finishes the season the right way, the way we hoped it would finish,” said MEI coach Jordan Geransky.

The Eagles finished undefeated on the season against B.C. teams, with their lone loss coming versus a Saskatchewan squad.

“We knew we had a lot of talent, but we also knew it is a really competitive province,” Geransky said. “We knew we had a pretty special group so we made the most of it.”

Earlier on Saturday in Kelowna, the MEI Eagles senior girls did the same, defeating Pacific Academy 3-2 to win AA provincial gold.

The Eagles fell behind 2-1, but then won 25-19 and 20-18 to win provincial gold.
