The Salmon Arm Junior Golds basketball team placed second in their own tournament over the weekend, winning two of three games.
Jordan Goertzen led the Golds with 10 points in their opening game, a 52-43 victory over Sahali of Kamloops. Ryan Willett and Lee Williams added nine and eight points respectively.
Salmon Arm fell behind Fulton by as many as 23 points in game two. Sam Wong played some inspired defence to help close the gap, but the Maroons prevailed 54-40. Josh Szoke was the top scorer with 11, followed by Nick Decastri and Dilan Ducharme with six each.
The Golds’ size advantage proved to be too much for Pleasant Valley, as Salmon Arm cruised to a 74-12 win in their third game. The Golds had a balanced scoring attack led by Decastri with 15 and Willett with 14, while Eric Borthistle and Goertzen tallied 10 each.
