Kelowna’s Madison Kapchinsky saved her best for last at the the B.C. Junior Girls’ Golf Championships, hosted by the Belmont Golf Club in Langley last week.
Kapchinsky fired a two-under-par 69 on the final day of the junior girls provincial golf championships to finish in fourth place all alone at the event.
A member at the Harvest, Kapchinsky opened with a 72 and also had rounds of 77 and 74 at the event. her total score was just six shots out of third place and a chance to play for Team B.C. at the Canadian junior championships.
Jessica Claggett of Two Eagles also had en excellent tournament, shooting 79-71-78-82 to finish in 15th position out of over 50 players. Kylie Jack of Two Eagles finished in 28th with rounds of 80-81-78-85 while Lauren Rutherglen of the Harvest finished 34th (87-82-81-79.

Steven Lee of Kelowna was the top local finisher at the 2013 B.C. Junior Boys golf Championships played late last week at the Revelstoke Golf Club.
Lee fired four rounds in the 70s to finish in a tie for 37th at the event which featured over 150 boys from around the province taking part.
The Kelowna Golf and Country club junior shot 78-74-73-77 to finish at plus-14 for the event.
Casey Sullivan, also from KGCC had rounds of 76-76-79-73 to finish T46 while Lionel Taylor of the KGCC was 68th after shooting 77-73-81-82.
Kelowna’s James Casorso had rounds of 75-79-77-83 to finish T69.
Colton Share of Lake Country, Nicholas Jones of Kelowna, Branden Jewsbury of West Kelowna and Brandon Whistle, Cole Baldigara and Marcus Apchin of Kelowna, also played but missed the cut.

Kelowna professional golfer Kyla Inaba is learning what it’s like as a touring pro after a busy five week schedule had her play in five different events, kicking it off with a pair of CN Canadian Women’s Tour events.
Inaba finished T23 after shooting 77-74 in a rain soaked event at Golf de Cowansville in Quebec before heading to the Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor, ON, the next week where she scrambled well en route to rounds of 74-72 and a tie for 27th.
Inaba then travelled to the Michigan Women’s Open where she shot 74-76-74 and a tie for 25th.
Up next was the Canadian Women’s PGA championship in Georgetown, ON, where Inaba continued to work on her game with what she called a Jeckel and Hyde performance, shooting 75-78 for a tie for 52nd.
After that event and with the LPGA Tour stopping in Waterloo, ON, Inaba jumped into the Monday qualifier at the Whistle Bear course, a private, links style club in Cambridge, Ontario. Despite four birdies on the back nine, she fell short of qualifying for the LPGA tournament.
“It’s my first full year playing a full schedule like this so I wasn’t sure how everything was going to go,” Inaba wrote on her blog. “However it was a huge success. I loved being on the road and making friends everywhere we went. It is really easy to get caught up in results but I found that I played decent with potential to always play better. Because I wasn’t focused on the results I was just really enjoying the experience.”

There’s just one week left in the regular season of the Okanagan Golf Club’s Molson Tour recreational golf tour.
The top 64 players will begin match-play playoffs July 22.
More than 100 players tackled the Bear course on Monday night with the biggest blast coming from Molson Tour co-founder Rick Jaenicke, who belted what some called a wind-aided long drive on the 18th hole.
Zoky Lacovic had the other long drive while closest to the pin winners were Brian Lanz, Brady Gollan, Brent Pateman and Rob Hill.
Lee Pratt rolled in the long putt and Al Knutson was closest to the Keg.
The final regular season event is Monday at the OGC’s Quail course.

Organizers of a fun golf challenge for the communities of Kettle Valley, Dilworth Mountain, Sunset Ranch and Black Mountain are looking for men and ladies golfers of all abilities and ages to take part in a golf event later this fall in Kelowna.
The first 12 to sign up from each community will be entered in the event with 48 participants in total per challenge during the months of September and October.
There will be prizes, community recognition, interesting scoring and donations taken in for a local charity of choice.
Courses taking part will be Two Eagles, Michaelbrook, Orchard Greens, Gallaghers Pinnacle or Black Mountain
