There’s going to be a lot of blue for a good cause on September 7 at Morningstar Golf Course, as the club plays host to the Blue Tie Golf Day for Prostate Cancer.
The event, which is now in its second year, was done privately in its first year with only 15 close friends taking part.
The expansion this year is meant to focus on fundraising efforts for prostate cancer, which an average of 475 Canadian men are diagnosed every week.
The cost for the event is $125 for members at Morningstar GC and $170 for non-members, which includes a cart and 18 holes of golf, as well as a $100 income tax deduction issued by the Prostate Center in Victoria. All of the funds raised at the event will remain on Vancouver Island.
“With three weeks until the event, we’ve got 54 signed up so far,” George Kenno said.
“It would be great if we could reach 80 all together. The focus on the event is really around the fundraising, there’s no big budget for it, no fancy cars or draw prizes. It’s just about bringing awareness to prostate cancer and fundraising for it.”
