Golfers enjoy Mother’s Day tourney at Glacier Greens

The 2011 Comox  Ladies North Island Golf Tournament was held Mother’s Day on a near perfect day.

The event is sponsored by four women from Remax Ocean Pacific Realty – Marie McCooey, Tracy Fogtmann, Glenda Mosher and Lisa Jorgensen.

Although there was no hole in one, the tournament is lucky to have two sponsors, The Visual Sound Store (50” plasma TV) and Canadian Western Bank ($5,000).

Judy Hook from Morningstar was low gross winner with 74. Karen Vanetta of the Comox Golf Club won low net in a countback with Valerie Dingwall from Crown Isle with 69.

Best shot award went to Katrina LeNoury from Vernon: from #18 tee box to the railing at the club house to the roof of the clubhouse down to the concrete walkway to the rough in front of the bunker, a skulled wedge to the back of the green and a drained 25-foot putt for par.

Following golf, Karen and her most efficient staff at Sprinkler’s served a delicious chicken cordon blue dinner.  Dessert had a chocolate theme.

Numerous local businesses provided generous sponsorship through the Hole Sponsorship Program. The tournament relies on their continued support as much as they rely on our support.

Grant from Double G Golf Pro Shop sponsored a draw for a hybrid club which was won by Nancy Newton. Thanks Grant for your hard work with the horse race, rulings and help with the scoring after some computer glitches.

Following the horse race, the ladies enjoyed a sushi platter from Quality Foods and a meat tray from Thrifty Foods. On Sunday Extra Foods supplied fruit for the ladies. Peg Runquist made all the golf towels for the goodie bags which were a great hit.

The tournament would not be successful without all the volunteers, from ball spotters to score keepers, and organizers thanked them all for their efforts.

CHIP INS Nate, TJ, Ernie, John and Mark had the course in great shape following a late spring … Pro Grant Goudy welcomed 68 ladies to the annual tournament … field results are in Scoreboard on page 16 …
