Fish derby is back

After a one-year hiatus, the Filomi Days Fishing Derby is back on the schedule of the community’s summer festival. And it’s got a brand-new location.

Jim’s Hardy Sports announced last week it has taken over sponsorship of the popular derby, which had been held through 2011 but was dropped last year when no group stepped up to run it.

This year’s derby runs July 19-21, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday. The official weigh-in station will be located at the Coast Guard dock, a change from its location at I.V.’s Quarterdeck Marina in previous years.

Tickets are $20 and only 200 tickets are available. They may be purchased in advance at Jim’s Hardy Sports or at Macandale Rentals.

Prize categories include largest salmon, largest lingcod and hidden weight halibut. Awards will be handed out at Carrot Park at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21.

For more info, call 250-949-8382.
