Good week for Junior Jewels

In Salmon Arm Secondary Junior Jewels basketball action, the team travelled to Penticton for a well-played tournament over the weekend, finishing with two wins and two losses.

Winning the first game 50-12 against the Penticton Secondary School Grade 9 team, the Jewels followed up with a 64-40 loss in their second game in a hard-battled matchup against the fast-breaking, fourth-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Secondary School.

Against Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School, the Jewels took a 55-28 win, with Trice Tuaiti tallying 16 points.

In their final game, the Jewels ran out of steam in the fourth, losing to Kelowna Secondary School 50-35.

In league play, the Jewels had a winning week, beating Lumby’s Charles Bloom Secondary School 42-20 last Tuesday and Kalamalka Secondary School 54-29.

 

To the wire

The Senior Jewels had two high-scoring league games last week. Tuesday in Kamloops against North Kamloops the girls faded down the stretch losing 68-79. In Rutland on Thursday the host Voodoos were sinking every shot and the Jewels couldn’t buy a basket in the first half.

Down by 16 points in the third quarter the girls battled back, led by Sam Bergman with 21 points.

Claire Beldi made a three-point shot at the final buzzer in a thrilling finish, but Rutland squeaked out a 61-60 win.

Next action is a home league game today at 5 p.m. at SAS versus the ninth-ranked Kelowna Owls. The Golds play the number-one AAA ranked Kelowna Owls at 6:45 p.m.
