Danny Van Gylswyk is synonymous with Gorge FC. The lifelong member has been with the club since he was a boy, about 50 years.
His past success as player and coach, locally, provincially and nationally, were honoured at the season-end Vancouver Island Soccer League awards on Friday.

Van Gylswyk was give the VISL President’s Award while several others were recognized, such as the divisional and cup champions, as well as their respective MVP’s, and community people, said outgoing VISL president Vince Greco.
“[Van Gylswyk]worked hard with his Div 1 team to get them where they should be – and did so by winning a Jackson Cup this year,” Greco said. “A good family man, dedicated club member, and just a solid person.”
The Div. 1 top scorer trophy and Dr. JD Hunter MVP award went to Ryan Andre of Lakehill FC
The Wilf Sadler Memorial for a distinguished person/leader in the league was given to Tyler Hughes of Cowichan.
The Tolmie Cup for Team of the Year went to Saltspring Alumni.
