The Grand Forks Border Bruins are currently on a three-game slide.

While being competitive, the team dropped a home game to the Nelson Leafs 2-1 on Sept. 20, followed by a 4-1 home loss to the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Sept. 21.

The Border Bruins also suffered a 4-2 loss in Spokane to the Braves on Sept. 23.

In the game against Creston Valley, the Border Bruins competed all game and two late goals – an empty-netter and a shorthanded goal – made the game seem a little more lopsided than it actually was.

“It was a 2-1 game going down to the last minute, the same thing against Nelson,” explained Nick Deschenes, the Border Bruins’ head coach after the game vs. the Thunder Cats.

“We’re right in these games and this is early and it’s a process, we probably have the youngest team in the league right now, so we’re happy with where we are. We’re going to learn how to lose and turn it around and learn how to win here,” he said.

Forward Dakota Kittle scored the Border Bruins’ lone goal against Creston Valley on the power play.

“It was a five-on-three in the second period. I had a nice pass across from the defenceman Nathan Cory and all I really had to do was put my head down and take a shot and it just went in,” Kittle explained.

The Border Bruins have three home games this week: Thursday vs. the Castlegar Rebels, Friday against Spokane and Sunday afternoon, the North Okanagan Knights.
