Grand Forks Piranhas take home swim meet for third straight year

The Grand Forks Piranhas are back in the pool and have been making a splash all around the Kootenays.

The Grand Forks Piranhas are back in the pool and have been making a splash all around the Kootenays.

The month of June saw the Piranhas compete in Nelson, Trail, Creston and at home.

The home swim meet on June 9 was a huge success with 42 swimmers participating and the Piranhas won their home meet for the third year in a row.

Ethan Argue had an amazing weekend and won the bronze medal for the Division 3 boys. Caitlyn Black walked away with a silver medal in the Division 3 girls. Ali Campbell impressed her coaches by knocking off a whopping 22 seconds in her 50-metre butterfly.

Gabriella Campbell moved up from novice and swam exceptionally for her first time in Division 1. Sierra Campbell picked up a bronze medal in Division 1. Megan Chapman dropped her 100-metre backstroke time by a second.

Paige Chursinoff came out and swam an excellent 50-metre freestyle. Leena Corbeil won the bronze medal for Division 3 girls. In the Novice division, Madelaine Coupland, Jamie Cheverie, Samantha Stewart, Makenna deVries, Kohei Dunnet, and Hunter Hodgkinson all swam in their first swim meet of the year. Bryce Findlater and Melanie Webster also swam as novices and took off 15 seconds and two seconds respectively in their 25-metre freestyle events.

Kiyomi Dunnet swam an magnificent 50-metre butterfly at her first swim meet ever! Sydney Gunther picked up a silver medal for the Division 2 girls.

Owen Heric won the silver medal for Division 3 boys. Sarah Heric won the silver medal for Division 5 girls. Isaac Holitzki improved a lot, taking off five seconds in his 50-metre butterfly. Jasmine Konken swam in Division 1 for the first time and swam an amazing 50-metre freestyle.

Harley Kovacs improved his 50m Freestyle time by a cool four seconds. Cassiane Larson smashed her old 50-metre fly time by an astounding 25 seconds. Ashlyn Leroy knocked her 50 free time down by three seconds.

Jayden Leroy put herself on the podium with a bronze medal in the Division 2 girls. Trentin Ludwar had a great weekend and took home the Division 6 boys silver medal.

Aysia Morgan won the silver medal in the Division 2 girls. Raelyn Morgan won the gold medal in the Division 2 girls to make the Piranhas sweep the division!

Jailyn Needoba took off some serious time (five seconds) in her 50-metre backstroke. Nicole Nuyten had an excellent weekend at her home pool. Kaileigh Parker beat her old 50-metre freestyle time by seven seconds. Xandria Parker had a one-second improvement in her 50-metre fly.

Sam Podmoroff swam exceptionally in his 50-metre freestyle. Abby Segstro enjoyed swimming for her first time in Division 1. Chloe Skerritt rocked a bronze medal for the Division 5 girls. Anykka Sorenson had a superb weekend, swimming for her first swim meet ever!

Grace Soukoreff knocked a couple second off in her 50-metre backstroke. Hadley Switzer impressed her coaches so much that she won the swimmer of the meet award. Faith Thomson swam in Division 2 for her first swim meet ever. Jake

Webster had an amazing 50-metre free and took off a second for his troubles.

The Piranhas will be back in the pool this July with swim meets in Colville, Castlegar, and Kimberley. Stay tuned for more as the Piranhas continue their 2012 swim season!
