Both the Ballenas Whalers senior boys and girls volleyball teams are headed to their respective provincial tournaments after successful runs at the Islands.
The senior boys squad came away with a second place finish at the Island tournament at Mark Isfeld Secondary School (Comox) last weekend, losing to Woodlands (Nanaimo) in the final.
The second place finish gives the Whalers a spot in the provincial tournament, which is going to be held at the Langley Events Centre Nov. 26-29.
The senior girls team wound up winning the bronze medal game after their power hitter Emily Robertson went down with an injury, dashing their hopes in a game against the Dover Bay Dolphins.
The girls re-grouped and beat out a tough Lambrick Park Lions team in five sets.
Breanna Harvey and Mariah St. Pierre each had 15 kills, while Allysa Brown had 10 digs on defense.
The senior girls provincials will be held in Parksville at Ballenas Secondary School Nov. 27-29.
