The 100 Mile House and District Soccer Association (OMHSA) fields have been the area for some friendly drop-in soccer every Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
Men and women from 100 Mile House and area come out each week to have a friendly game of soccer.
Skill level is not a requirement for this drop-in event, only the desire to play and have fun. Having begun in early May, the co-ed soccer games have had running times from only one hour up to nearly three continuous hours of play.
This is one of the standing points event organizer Hilary Gosnell wants people to know the most.
“It’s a great group of people who come out to have fun. There can be a little competition here and there, but since there are no official teams, everyone is just having a good time.”
There were 12 players on the pitch on June 9 and it was a long game of back-and-forth play with some great goals and most especially “tons of laughs.” Gosnell encourages everyone to put on some running shoes or cleats and come out and play.
“With games like baseball, you have to commit to a league. With this, all you need is some free time on a Thursday night and the want to play!”
Gosnell also runs the Ladies drop-in soccer at the OMHSA fields every Monday at 6:30 p.m. This event is extremely beginner friendly and welcome to any women who just want to kick a ball around.
Weather has been a factor to the numbers for each event, but with the June heat soon to come, Gosnell is hoping for more people to come out and play.
“It’s very non-committal and just an all-around great time.”
These drop-in events run all summer long and have a $5 fee. All funds go back to the soccer association for field maintenance.
