Great expectations

The bantam Thunder thrives in tier two tournament in Vernon.

The Bantam Thunder made a goal to get to the finals in every tournament this year and achieved that goal again last weekend.

The team was south, in Vernon, last weekend playing against a variety of teams in the tier two tournament.

“The boys should be proud of the progress they have made so far this season and commended for their discipline both on and off the ice.  As a tier three team, they have proven that they are competitive in both tier one and tier two levels,” coach Allan Slaney said.

The Thunder started off the tournament against a difficult team, facing off against Penticton, a tier one team.

The game was low scoring, with the Thunder’s goalie, Reign Turley playing an outstanding game. Turley led the team to victory, getting a shutout on the way to the 1-0 win.

Next up, the Thunder took on Trail. The Thunder took the lead quickly in the first, allowing only one goal and marking two of their own and cemented it in the second with another two, for a four one victory.

Nelson proved to be a bit of trouble, taking the lead in the first before the Thunder came back with three in the second and matched Nelson’s two in the third for a close 5-4 victory.

In the semi-finals, the Thunder ran up against Abbortsford. The Thunder, one step away from their goal, hit Abbortsford hard, winning the game 6-1.

In the finals the Thunder ran up against Trail again. This time however, Trail found some power in the finals rush, scoring five points in the first and two in the second and third, to beat the Thunder 9-2.

The bantam Thunder will be in Prince George this weekend to take on a challenging pool of Williams Lake, Kamloops and Smithers.
