Queens & Jack
Each season, members of the Crown Isle Ladies golf club take part in a variety of fun events and the activity held Tuesday, Aug. 14 was one of them.
It was the annual Three Queens & a Jack round when members of the Men’s Club join in so that each team has three females and one male. The format this time was different – it was a scramble, with both men and women playing off the red tees. Each player on the team tees off and the best of the four drives is selected; all players move their ball to that spot and play their second shots. The best of the second shots is selected and all players move their ball to that spot and play their third shots, and so on, until the ball is holed. Each team member must have four4 of their drives used in the round.
First place, winning gold with a low gross of 61, went to the team of Kathy McGillis, Joanne Meyer, Rosemary Smith (queens) and John Roulston (jack). Second low gross, winning silver with 65 (on a count-back) were ‘queens’ Brenda Barrigan, Helen Dahl, Raelene Robertson and ‘jack’ Russ Pouliot. The bronze for third low gross at 65 was claimed by ‘queens’ Jane Cunningham, Jan Macfarlane, May Mitchell and ‘jack’ Ramsay Poucher. KPs went to ‘queen’ Raelene Robertson on #12 and ‘jack’ Ken Smith on #4.
Following the game, participants enjoyed the sunny afternoon, a great barbecue and good conversation at the home of Carol Ann and John Roulston.
