Grey Fox edged the Anaham Athabaskins 5-4 Wednesday night in a shootout to claim the title.

Bill McGinnis, Rollie Doucette, Troy Johnston and Sheldon Lainchbury all lit the lamp for Grey Fox, while Shane Vermeulen notched the shootout winner on Athabaskins’ goaltender Christian Stump. Vermeulen also added three assists in the contest for a four-point night.

Duncan Peeman picked up the win between the pipes for Grey Fox.

Wilfred Robbins scored twice, while Duane Alphonse and Paul Grinder each tallied for the Athabaskins in the loss.

En route to the championship in earlier playoff action Grey Fox, who finished first in the regular season with a 16-win and four-loss record, beat O-Netrix 11-3. The other teams competing in the ‘A’ division were the Firemen and Dog Creek.

In the ‘B’ division final Tuesday evening it was the Deep Creek Falcons thumping Boston Pizza, 5-1.

Kelly Williams found the twine two times for the Falcons, while Anthony Sellars, Ryan Dan and Dervy Johnny added singles in the win. Goaltender Matt Brenner notched the win in goal for the Falcons.

Brett Douglas, meanwhile, scored the lone goal for Boston Pizza.

The Falcons defeated the Alkali Renegades, 8-7, on March 9 to advance to the championship.

In the consolation final, it was the ‘A’ division’s Dog Creek facing the ‘B’ division’s Rezzo Tribe, where Dog Creek skated to a 7-4 win.

Playoff scoring leaders were the Alkali Renegades Francis Johnson (9G, 3A,  12PTS), Robbins (5G, 6A, 11PTS) and Vermeulen (3G, 7A, 10PTS).
