The Golden Rockets fell to the Revelstoke Grizzlies 4-2 during their first meeting of the regular season.
After a scoreless first period, the Rockets’ captain Darren Andre opened it up, scoring a goal with 5:50 left in the second. The Grizzlies answered back almost immediately, tying it up only 37 seconds later on the power play.
Golden took the lead again early in the third period with a Brett DeFrias goal, less than a minute into play. Despite three consecutive Revelstoke penalties, the Rockets lost the lead when the Grizzlies scored two quick goals only 21 seconds apart, roughly half way through the period.
A hard push at the end wasn’t quite enough as the Grizzlies sealed the deal with an empty netter, winning the game 4-2.
Head Coach Ty Davidson was not happy, as this is the second time his team has blown the lead in as many games.
“We were decent at times, but not consistently for long stretches of time. We’d have a shift here, a shift there, four minutes here, five minutes there. But we didn’t have any extended periods of time where I thought we were really initiating the play,” said Davidson after the game.
And just like the previous few games, Davidson says special teams were the difference between a win and a loss.
“The difference in the game was the power play goal. They got one, we didn’t get one, so there you go. At most levels, and it’s no different with our level, if you don’t get things done on special teams, you won’t win that game.”
The next home game for the Rockets is on Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. against the Columbia Valley Rockies, before they go on the road to play the Rockies in Invermere the following night.
