With the 25th annual Grumpy Old Men tournament kicking off tomorrow, there will be plenty of action to see over three days at Oceanside Place in Parksville.
Six divisions and more than 20 teams will be in action from Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29.
Saturday afternoon will see Team Switchblade going up against the Vancouver Island All-Stars, led by former NHL first round draft pick Doug Bodger and former NHL eighth round pick Trent Kaese.
Last year, the charity game raised more than $3,000 for the Society of Organized Services’ Recreation Assistance Program and this year, they will be looking to do the same to help more children to get involved in sports and recreation in the region.
There will also be two teams of Oceanside Minor Hockey Timbits players taking to the ice during intermission.
There will be an auction which will see an autographed guitar from country music artists Dallas Smith and Chad Brownlee, a former Vancouver Canucks draft pick who played for Team Switchblade last year.
Also up as prizes are an autographed Carey Price (Montreal Canadiens) jersey and tuition to Nate Leslie’s hockey camp. Leslie played professionally in Europe.
The charity game will take place on Saturday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m. in Howie Meeker Arena at Oceanside Place.
