CRESTON/KIMBERLEY – They might have split into two. But the result was the same.

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack and the University of Calgary Dinos kicked off their fifth annual “Promote CIS Volleyball” tour in the Kootenays last week with a couple of split squad games in Kimberley and Creston.

The result was that the Dinos took the ‘Pack in both matches. In Creston, the scores were 25-21,26-28,25-18,23-25,13-15 as the Dinos won three games to two. In Kimberley, Calgary won 3-1 by scores of 25-16,18-25,25-27,23-25.

“We had a lull in the fourth set after a bigger win in the third,” said WolfPack head coach Pat Hennelly who handled the bench in the Creston match. TRU was led by Brad Gunter (2nd year, outside hitter, Courtenay) and Hardy Wooldridge (3rd year, outside hitter Mission Viejo, CA) with 16 and 11 kills respectively.

The match in Kimberley saw Mike Hawkins make his head coaching debut. Jesse Bazerui (3rd year, outside hitter, White Rock) and Mohamed Abdur Rehim (2nd year, middle, Cairo, Egypt) played well.

Thompson Rivers plays their Canada West home opener Oct. 26 against the University of BC Okanagan Heat at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops.
