It was a whirlwind end to the gymnastics season, with provincial championships and two invitational meets for gymnasts with the Technics Gymastics Club, and coach Peggy Willcox is pleased with her athletes.
“Overall I was exceptionally pleased with the performances of all athletes throughout the year,” Willcox said.
She highlighted several performances in the year end events.
At the provincial championships in Langley, last April, Taylor Dotto earned a fifth-place ribbon for her floor exercise in Level 2 Novice competition.
“We were very pleased with the results,” Willcox said.
“An outstanding accomplishment.”
Janelle Izzard also earned a ribbon for an eight-place finish in floor exercise in Level 3 Tyro competition.
“She had a stellar performance,” Willcox said of Izzard’s floor routine.
Quesnel gymnasts then made their way to the Prince George Invitational meet earlier this month and again put in great performances.
Dotto earned gold for her floor routine and silver on the balance beam.
“Those are outstanding results,” Willcox said.
Izzard also had a strong showing at the P.G. Invitational meet, taking the all around title in Level 3 Tyro competition, thanks to a gold medal performance on the beam, silver for floor and vault and a bronze on the uneven bars.
Other gymnasts collecting medals or ribbons at the P.G. Invitational included Jessica Higgins, Alyssa Schneider, Celina DeRose, Madison Moore, Kim Hruschak, Danielle Carter and Alexis Wright.
“We have some very strong up and comers,” Willcox said.
“I hope they will continue to strive toward the 2015 Canada Games.
“With the Games being held in Prince George, it would be an event of a lifetime, right in our own backyard.”
Newcomers Darby O’Hara, Presley Kitimura and Lakelynn Lothrop also distinguished themselves with medals in the Gymstart Program, which Willcox said bodes well for the club.
“Our pre-competitive group, the Gymstart program, had the highest scores of the meet for physical abilities in three of the 4 levels of difficulty,” Willcox said.
“This strength and flexibility training is crucial to later success in competitive gymnastics so I am pleased that our athletes have put so much effort into attaining this level.”
At the Doetzel Invitational in Fort St. John, Hannah Doucette and Madison Moore continued to impress.
“Hannah Doucette had clean performances especially on beam and Madison Moore has been showing outstanding vaulting capabilities all year.”
