Gymnasts reach provincial podium

The Okanagan Rhythmics turned in strong performances at the B.C. Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships last weekend in Vancouver.

The Okanagan Rhythmics turned in strong performances at the B.C. Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships last weekend in Vancouver.

“Taking so many athletes of varying experience levels to provincials was both challenging and exciting,” said head coach Camille Martens. “The successes were wonderful and the errors gave us clear maps of what to work on as we prepare for the Westerns Canadian Championships later this month.”

Results are as follows:

Provincial Stream Level 3 (Pre-Novice): Meagan Lightfoot and Naomi Yacyshen tied for the bronze medal position in the ball event and ended up fourth and fifth overall.

Level 4 (Novice): Chantel Bennett of Lake Country won gold in ball, silver in free and gold overall to be the B.C. champion. Emmalee Holland of Vernon was sixth overall and Georgia Currie of Lumby was 12th overall.

Level 5 (Junior): Chloe Bozak of Armstrong was 10th, Czarina Wisse came seventh overall and Isabel Wiseman placed fifth overall and won the bronze medal in ball.

National Stream Level 7 (Pre-Novice): Halle Moger was fifth overall. Isabella Haldane won silver in free and bronze in ball and bronze overall.

Level 8 (Novice): Amy Palmer finished 10th overall, Emma Jotie of Kamloops sixth overall. Jaedyn Andreotti won silver in free, gold in ball and finished fourth overall.

Level 9 (Junior): Emily O’Quinn finished 10th and Tessa Rohatensky of Winfield came ninth overall. Megan Hamilton continued her strong season by striking gold in clubs and ribbon and bronze overall.

Level 9 (Senior): Okanagan dominated the senior category with Caroline Hoffman placing ninth overall. Hannah Stanley was sixth overall and won a bronze in ribbon. Kelsey Anderson was fifth overall. Loren Stanley ended up fourth with a bronze in clubs. Jessica Krushen won silver with a stunning hoop and took bronze overall.
